Creating a clearer starting point for students

Before students arrive on campus, they need to complete one of the most important steps in their journey: the study permit application.

BorderPass helps students understand what is required, gather the right documents, and complete their applications through a guided platform built for accuracy and consistency.

For students, that means a more organized experience with access to licensed legal support at an affordable rate. For Trent, it means a more standardized way for applications to be prepared, supported, and fully compliant.

At Trent, we want every international student to feel part of our community before they arrive in Canada. Through our collaboration with BorderPass, students who accept an offer of admission can access clear guidance and support from licensed Canadian immigration lawyers at no cost as they apply for a study permit. It’s one of the many ways we help students feel supported as they prepare to join us at Trent.

Built for institutional quality and compliance

As international education rules shift, learning institutions need systems that help their teams support large incoming cohorts while holding quality steady across the immigration process.

BorderPass gives institutional teams tools to track student progress, work from better application data, support compliance, and keep processes consistent across incoming student applications.

This helps institutions strengthen the way support is delivered before students begin their studies in Canada.

How BorderPass supports Trent’s incoming international students

Trent University welcomes students from around the world into a close-knit academic community across its campuses in Peterborough and Durham.

Through this collaboration, incoming international students gain step-by-step guidance paired with licensed legal support, so the process is clearer from the first step. Every file prepared through BorderPass is reviewed by a licensed lawyer.

BorderPass was built to support people who want to study and work in Canada, along with the institutions that stand behind them. We are glad to be working with Trent University to give incoming international students a clearer path through the study permit process.

Keep Your International Students and Workers in Quebec as the PQ Plans to Cut Immigration

Keep Your International Students and Workers in Quebec as the PQ Plans to Cut Immigration

The international graduates and foreign workers already in Quebec may be first in line for permanent residence under the province’s new government, as long as their status holds until new rules arrive. Schools and employers that act now can keep the people they enrolled and trained. A BorderPass Pathway Assessment shows each student or worker every work and permanent residence route open to them, federal and provincial. Once they choose a pathway, a licensed Canadian immigration lawyer reviews the application before filing. The Parti Québécois (PQ) won Quebec’s October 5, 2026 election and will form a minority government with plans to cut immigration. It may need support from another party, such as the Conservative Party of Quebec, to pass parts of that plan into law.

BorderPass Ranks #7 on The Globe and Mail’s 2026 List of Canada’s Top Growing Companies

BorderPass has been named #7 on [The Globe and Mail’s 2026 Report on Business ranking of Canada’s Top Growing Companies](https://www.theglobeandmail.com/business/rob-magazine/top-growing-companies/article-ranking-canadas-top-growing-companies-of-2026/), with three-year revenue growth of 4,284%. Of the 375 companies recognized this year, only six grew faster. That growth has been driven by employers, learning institutions, and individuals looking for immigration support that’s accessible, compliant, and moves quickly. Legal fees have kept expert advice out of reach for many organizations and individuals, while compliance has grown harder to understand and maintain. BorderPass answers both, bringing lawyer-backed guidance to every applicant an organization supports and keeping each one compliant through renewals, changes in status, and every step after arrival.

Briefing for Partner DLIs: LOA Conditions and Study Permit Refusals

IRCC has increased scrutiny on study permit (SP) applications, with closer review of whether the conditions attached to a conditional Letter of Acceptance (LOA) have been met. This is producing avoidable SP refusals for students who hold a valid, conditional LOA but whose SP application does not document the status of those conditions. This briefing outlines the pattern we are seeing, gives two illustrative examples, and sets out steps DLIs can take to reduce refusal risk for shared applicants.
