Duolingo has partnered with digital immigration platform BorderPass to support Indian students applying to Canadian colleges and universities using the Duolingo English Test (DET) as part of their study permit applications.
This partnership reflects a shared mission: expanding access to education by removing barriers at one of the earliest and most critical stages—proving English language proficiency. Together, Duolingo and BorderPass are making it easier for students to submit strong study permit applications with fast, affordable, and widely accepted DET scores.
“This partnership gives students more control, more clarity, and more confidence when it matters most,” says Sally Daub, co-founder of BorderPass.
“We’re proud to support Duolingo in offering students a smarter pathway into Canadian postsecondary programs.”
Students applying to institutions that accept the Duolingo English Test, and who are using the regular study permit stream—can now submit DET scores directly through the BorderPass platform. BorderPass' team of licensed immigration professionals reviews the test results alongside each student’s documents and ensures they meet the current IRCC requirements before the application is filed.
DET is not currently accepted under the Student Direct Stream (SDS). BorderPass helps applicants understand which test is right for their specific school and pathway before submitting.
"By partnering with BorderPass, we’re simplifying a critical step—verifying English proficiency—making the path to Canada faster, more secure and far less stressful," says Marlene Olsavsky, Country Lead, Duolingo English Test, Canada.
BorderPass offers personalized immigration support for Indian students using DET, including:
Students also receive timely updates about policy changes that could affect their application.
